rheostat with UV incandescent?

zrho Jun 20, 2003 12:21 AM

Anyone running a Powersun or T-rex UV incandescent on a dimmer? Wondering if this would be acceptable to control heat output. Can anyone give it the thumbs up or explain why it's a bad idea?

I think those bulbs are actually mercury vapor, not incandescent (although they fit in a standard socket)...
I have heard that you cannot use a dimmer/rheostat/etc., on them, but I don't know why.

Ah yes, they are indeed mercury vapor - which may also explain why I have not been able to find info about using a dimmer with them.

Thanks for the clarification.
