I took my young beardie out in the grass to catch some natural rays. We sat there for about 20 minutes as he confused my dogs and sat upon the clovers. I was hopeing he would get some excersize while he was out there... like run in circles or something... but being a beardie he never moved until his little unfriendly "friend" came to pay a visit to a nearby flower. Anyway, all of a sudden he took off about two feet away and snapped at a bee twice the size of his head! First of all, he's been on the habit of not eating lately, and I'm usually lucky to get a cricket a bit bigger than a pinhead down. He has trouble catching the bigger crickets so as usual he didn't get the bee the first time. But then he darted off and got him. He let go as I relized he bit the back end of the bee so I took him inside to find that he was constantly licking the left side of his mouth. He is a really cool lizard and very friendly and has NEVER hissed at me so i didnt want to piss him off by trying to open his mouth for two hours so i called the exotic vet and they said it will be expensive to bring him in plus to treat him (pulling the stinger out and giving me a bottle of medicine of which has a name i can't pronounce). Well i dont have a job but, i have a boyfriend who works at a cat/dog vet so i brought him in and he got the stinger out for me, or atleast knocked it loose and he swollowed it. They said that should be ok because its just chitin and that can be broken down in the stomache. I thought it would be like swolloing a pick-ax... So far no swelling and no constant licking or squirming so i think he is going to make a great recovery and as for the bee, let's just say he's having a grand time on the bottom of my shoe.
If you know anything about bee stings let me know if I dont know something I should.
Thank You
