ya there are, make the cage taller i have Taz with about 2-2½ft of dirt in his cage. these guys LOVE to dig, so let them. make it 4ft tall with a large lip in the front for dirt. and what happens if your book doesnt do so well and you dont make a lot of money off of it? i just spent $400 on mice and rats for my tegus alone, not to mention my monitors. and that $400 of food will hopefully last 3-4mos. and if you are looking at a tegu or a monitor, look into an Ackie those guys are killer. very cool lizards. just some things to think about. Ackies would require much less food, being able to have crickets, superworms, and roaches as their main diet.

i'll get rewards from my parents for publishing the book, even if it dosnt do so well. and i was thinking of makeing the tegs diet varied so it dosnt eat always mice. like monday fish and fruit, wedsnday mice and turkey, friday veggies and fish, and sunday mice and eggs. would that work? i do want an ackie, i was thinking to get an ackie first so i can know what moniters are like. and can they have a shallow substrate with a deep digging tub? and do they need a top in a 4ft tall cage? do they need uvb as adults? i hear they dont but also hear they do. your teg is cute! how long is he?

400$ for 3-4 months?...I must be doing something wrong. I figure if I had to pay for all my [bleep] (Happy I don't) it'd cost me about 60-70$ a week for mine. All I have is a red tegu, 2 blue tongues and a spotted python. My tegu acounts for about 40$ of it alone. For example today she ate 5 live young rats and about 6 cherries. two days ago 3 live adult mice and two cherries...and she's ONLY about 30 maybe 35"!!!

as far as tegus i have 2 male Argentine Black and White Tegus. 1 is 4'4" and around 18lbs, the other is young and only about 34". 1 female that eats like a beast. she is over 3' now. and 1 Colombian Tegu of which i am unsure of the sex. i feed my guys daily and as much as they will eat. Taz my big male only eats every other day though. everything else eats a crap load, EVERYday.
