Change of Character Indoors vs Outdoors???

Brock Jun 24, 2004 06:34 PM

I've just recently started taking my chameleons outside. My very hostile male becomes tame and passive, unusually tame and passive, outside, and my usually very very very tame female becomes hostile and jumps right out of my hands and gapes at me.

Why?

Not sure, but I have had very similar experiences taking my panthers outside. Though some are jerks both in and outside, and some stay nice in and outside, while some have different personalities inside as opposed to outside.

Guess you have to be a chameleon to know....

I heard once that chameleons could 'see' UV light of some sort, forget which UV type, but I was thinking maybe some could freak out over it and some could be mezmerized by it? Or maybe they're stressed out by all the sites or mezemerized by them.

It's most likely a bit of stress or intimidation by the great outdoors with all the strange stuff to ponder. Some aggressive dominant chams will get subdued and others act out defensively. Most of my chams change their behavior when outdoors.
