How to calm down a childrens

SPJ01 Jun 24, 2004 07:02 PM

I have a psycho red phase. He launches full body strikes and even hides by the lip of the cage so that when I open it, he can bite me before I see him. He will also stike repeatedly at the front of the cage just because someone happens to walk by.
I have others from hatchling to adults and only one other is a biter. She will bite on occasion but nothing this this one.

I have 1:2 childreni. My ('02) male has been sweet tempered ever since he was a hatchling. My oldest ('00) female made me bleed daily for about the first year. Then, one day she simply decided to turn into a calm, serene python. My (01) female remains evil. If she's out, she immediately hovers in strike position the moment I shut the herp room door behind me.

Still, I handle her, (cloaca dumping and all) in the hopes of a miracle. I find that if I cover her head with a cloth it calms her down a bit, and often allows me to remove her from her enclosure without her teeth embedded in some part of my hand.

I hatched a clutch of a friend's childreni eggs, and all 13 were bitey little worms. He kept four, and all were biters until they were a year or so old. Then they calmed down. From what I've read and seen (limited as it is), that behavior is fairly typical of childreni. They are a cool species, and worth the effort to civilize them. Best of luck!
