new baby sav owner

wyattroa Jun 24, 2004 07:07 PM

Well i bought a baby sav that is about 9 inches long from snout to end of tail. He loves chasing down those crickets! i currently have it in a 55 gallon tank as of now. Im starting to build him a new one so when he gets large enough it is ready. Just a few quick questions. I know it takes time for the lizard to get used to you, would it be a good idea to block off all the crack and everything in my bathroom and just let him run around while im in there with him? Also is it normal if when holding him he does his business on my hand? and the last one.. when holding a baby sav he is calm when i pick him up and in my hand for about 3 minutes but after that he start moving around and trying to get loose.. do i hold him there still so he cant get loose or put him back in the cage, or would that condition him into thinking if i move around he will put me away?or just hold him with a firm hand to get him used to it, and how often?? thanks again for the responses and i will get pics up as soon as possible!
Robert

well if you just bough it i would let it get use to its new tank. most monitors will pee on you hand bc my black rough neck still does it and i had her for 6 months. this is like a deffence tacktic. just as hissing and opening its mouth. bc the nasty smell of pee and poop is nasty to most thing and it would just leave it alone. and most monitors dont like to be handled so just let him walk around on you hand do the hand switch thing where he crawls on one the to the next .
