PLEASE HELP

bullman Jun 24, 2004 08:20 PM

I got my first snake about a week ago(baby ball python). He is in a 10 gallon aquarium with under-tank heater and heat lamp during the day. I have a water bowl that he could easily fit in. He ate three fuzzies 2 days ago when his eyes were "blueing". He has been trying to shed for about three hours now ,rubbing his nose on everything but hasn't broken skin. Is anything wrong with him. And his skin is kind of loose. Could this be dehydration. please reply quick.

Wait to see how it goes before you get nuts. Make sure you have a rock, wood or something in the cage he can shed on.

I left him overnight and now he has stoped trying to shed. I had something rough in the tank too.Should I try to help him.

What's your humidity? Did he get it off himself?

Try using a humidity box. This is simple to make. Get an old tubberware or plastic container with a lid,cut a hole in the side of it big enough for the snake to fit into and fill it with damp moss or a damp paper towel. Also I feel a 10 gallon is to small for a ball python...even a baby. I suggest using a 20 long.

First, is he still "in the blue"? They will go "blue" then clear up and then shed. It may take a week or two from the time he is "blue". Also, I would move him to a bigger tank, I like to start with a 20 long. And an UTH a heat light may be a bit much in a ten gallon. What are your temps. Get a humit hide, (tuperware contaner with moss or paper towles works fine) Give him some time, and something ruff to rub on and he should be fine.
