egg bound retic - what would you do?

murdoch Jun 24, 2004 08:29 PM

Just a web poll

i had a gravid female retic that laid a few eggs- which did not hatch- but obviously had a large number that were not laid. I took a watch and wait approach and over the next 6 weeks, one or two at a time, slimey and nastier with each passing week, the eggs were passed. No vet care just a good cage environment and lots of water available to drink. Handling seemed to induce more eggs to pass as did two sheds that occured in the process.
Female is now fat, happy, and hopefully will again breed but of this i am fully uncertain. The Barkers addressed this issue a few years back on their forum and suggested that a watch and wait procedure might work assuming excellent health of the mom and proper cage conditions. PS this female was a first time breeder this year but was fully up to size as her sister laid her second clutch this year with no problems.

Any thoughts?
