Here is the story i purchased a hog island female a while back when she arrived she was deathly ill.She had the worst case of respiratory i had ever seen> I imeadiatly started treating her with 21/2 ml/250mg daily of tylan for 7 days this seemed like it was doing the trick but after i stoped treating her the ri quickly returned i have since tried baytril but to no avail . she is by no means as bad as she was when i opend the box but i can still hear the respiratory and feel it when i hold her(which i dont really do much as to not add more unneeded stress)i have no qualified herp vets in my area and in the past have pretty much treated my own animals very sucessfully i might add untill now i am stumped with this one can anyone add any insight that may prove helpfull any sugestions will be greatly apreciated

Keep it nice and warm... 85 cool side and 90 warm side...

I don't remember if you should raise or lower the humidity, but the heat trick has helped me pull 2 snakes out of RIs in the past. Someone else will know about the humidity.

Good luck.

From the way it sounds you got taken. Nothing makes me madder then someone getting good money for a Bad animal. If this kind of behavior continues then Noone will be buying off of Kingsnake no more or any other site for that matter. If you paid good money for this animal and didnt know what to expect untill you opened the Box. Please email me this persons Name so I am able to stear clear of him/her. I am in the process of buying snakes like CRAZY Right now and so far have not gotten Screwed (knock on wood). I really dont plan on it.
One bad snake can destroy your entire collection. It happend to me about 4yrs. ago. I brought in one bad snake and do to stupidity did not hold off. When I through it in with the others in my collection (About $20,000.00 worth) I ended up losing all but about 3 snakes in a matter of 2 weeks.
Please let me know who sold you this snake unless you knew what to expect.
The only advice I have is to Raise the Humidity and Temp. You might also want to use some kind of Saline wash to help dry it out.
I wish you luck
Justin

Sorry to hear that.I just went through that with a W.C 7 ft. guyana female.Six months with the respitory inf.Jonathan Brady turned me on to the tylan-500.I used(.10-cc/ that's a tenth cc) per pound. So if the snake is 8 pounds,.80.Shot in the upper half of the her body, every three days.So if you shot her up on a sunday, then wednesday is the next day.I raised temps 85-95 with low relative humidity.VERY IMPORTANT while your snake is on antibiotics make sure she is well HYDRATED.I soaked my snake in warm water for two hours once a week.I covered her cage with a dark sheet, and left her alone.I kept using the TYLAN a little over three weeks almost a month till all signs of the R.I where gone.Sometimes stopping the antibiotics just when they start working is a mistake. Please check out Jeff Ronne's site for the proper dosage. All I can tell you is what worked for me.GOOD LUCK MAN.Check her out, solid, remember 6 months of sever R.I.

It's sad really...I hope it works out for you and your Hog...so far it looks like you've received some very good advice.

Best wishes for both of you, Chris Olson

ps. I would also be interested in knowing who sold you this poor Hog. chrisolsonreptiles@juno.com

I had a boa come out of breeding season with a resp. infection. As soon as I noticed it, I started him on shots of Amikasin. I had a vet give me the exact dosage and I gave my boa the injections every three days (I believe it was every three days - I would have to check my records to verify). Amikasin cleared up the resp. infection in no time and I haven't had a problem since. Call a vet and run this by him/her just to see if they recommend it.
Good luck,
Eric

he claimed that he did not notice it when he shipped the animal, but he acted like a real gentalman he refunded me my money and told me to keep her . this snake has come a long way im mean at one point she was very near death. she was week and very lethargic not to mention driping mucus from the mouth and nose. now she is eating at least although her stool is kinda runny ive tried panacure and flagyll to no availe even though most of the r.i is gone but she is still a bit raspy .the temps are 91 on the hot side of the cage and 88 on the cool side humidity is up to between 65-70% i just dont know what to do with her
