Baby not growing

lauraLSU Jun 25, 2004 09:56 AM

My youngest, Fiesta, is just not growing. He eats like a pig and is quite pudgy, but he almost never sheds and is not growing. I have had him since early November and he has grown maybe an inch since then. He recently started showing some color, VERY faint juvie orange stripes and maybe bluestar coloring. (He has been a light gray with NO color since he was given to me) I am curious if anyone has noticed similar stunted growth?

Some collareds just stay smaller. If he is healthy, eats well, than you may have to face the fact that you have a smaller male.

I have Chaco, you have seen him in the past. A yellowhead male.

He is 2 years old now, and looks like a juvie next to my other collareds, inclusing females.

When Will , saw my post one time about him, he said , Chaco's father was also small.

So just keep that in your hat, heheheheheheh LOL

I have a feeling he will stay small. I don't mind, he is the fiestiest little guy with small black spots on his gray head. So cute! He was always my fave, after Bonita of course. I guess he moved up now. My bicinctores male, Gaucho, is very cool too. Captive bred, but VERY wild. Cool guy.

I have posted a pic of Fiesta the gray baby before. Here it is again, it has been a while. I wish I could figure out how to shrink it!

I do some rescue and fostering (in my free time LOL) and I have a black lab right now. Fabulous dog, under a year old and trained for duck hunting. Picked him up as a stray, deathly skinny. I started calling the dog Gaucho, but it didn't stick to the dog, it fit the lizard really well. I call the dog Poika, Finnish for "boy".

Names just pop in my head sometimes.

Yeah, I like names also. I do use the indiany names for the collareds, but usually I am more unique, LOL I always loved naming my stuffed animals when just a little kid.

My mom used to help, she would let me in her bed, and we would look at the stuffed cat, or whatever and we would think and think. LOL

Hers were always better but I would get mad because I did not get to name it, heheheheh !

Shes been gone along time, died in her 50's with cancer, but boy did she teach me alot about loving critters. And all sorts of TREASURED THINGS

My mother was as bad as me when I was little. If we saw a turtle crossing the road she would HAVE to stop and move it across. We always has a menagerie of animals around us as children. Very fun, no wonder I am in vet school!
I think it is important to encourage a love for animals in children, it is a love that permeates all aspects of our lives.
Gotta go, I've got a big date tonight!

oh eve, so sorry to hear about your mom! i could not imagine mine not being around! however, laura and eve, both of your moms sound like my mother. i had 12 black labs in my house one time, not to mention the pugs we already had and another time we had 10 cats but also frogs, rats, a mean mean rabbit and many other cats dogs and animals in general. the worst was the tokay gecko, we had no idea really what he was nor that he was supposed to be so mean! my mom would cry and my dad would let her keep an animal till we found it a home. she was on a first name basis with everyone at the rescue vet place. we even had my sisters' homeless friends here too! always a zoo!

names are a lot of fun to pick. one time me and a sister found a cat and we named him by opening the dictionary and pointing to a word. it was loquacious (aka lacky) and that name fit him to a T. that cat never stopped meowing! now i use names that are not used often anymore, walter ivan, milly and helga. i even have a name picked out for my baby collared if i ever get one from walter and ivan the girl, inga van walterson ! (it always makes me giggle when i tell people walter and ivan are having babies, it makes them think for a bit)

anyway, if you ever need indian names or spanish names i can most likely help you out as that is two of the things i study for my masters degree.
ok i am rambling now so i am going
