What should the water depth be for a hatchling common and how deep when he gets older? Also what should i put on the bottom of the tank?

the ehad should be able to go out of the water(nostrils only really)when hes on the bottom maybe alittle more cause u shouldnt make hatchlings have to swim alot to get air or u can have alot of things to climb on
