what would a corn and king make?

chuck420 Jun 25, 2004 11:39 AM

hi i know it would make a jungle corn but what kind of coloration do u think i would get crossbreeding these snakes...ill post pics below one is a desert phase cali king, one is a amel corn female..i think with a bit of reverse oketee cuz shes got pretty thick white borders coming in..maybe not tho..and i have a normal/oketee im pretty sure both corns are females and i know the king is a male has anyone done these mixes before? if so what did u come up with? i saw a nice jungle corn with coloration similar to a python...browns and yellows it was very nice
anyway heres the pics if anyone has produces jungle corns please post pics as i am very interested in making these my self...also has anyone bred (i know its not a hybrid) a mexi black king and a cali king? would it make something similar to a bloodred/oketee? like a black film over white and black bands?
heres the pics

Since its been done for a couple decades you might want to acquire Jungles because the F1 generation babies will not be that good looking. Where the nice ones come from is the (f2)het to het crossings. When you get the original babies you might be dissapointed becuase it will take yrs to raise them up and breed them back.
This rule seems to apply to most hybrids.

So if you start with a hybrid to make a hybrid... chances of more "stunning" offspring than if they were pure snakes to begin with?

Just asking because I was thinking of crossing my Jurassic Milk Male (whom I believe to be het amel) with my reverse okeetee female and/or a female possible creamsicle. My thought is that the babies would be quite stunning, perhaps, from my reverse okeetee and my Jurassic male. My hope is I would get some stunning non-amel babies that look good for me (but perhaps nobody else) and some amelanistic babies that others might like (but that I wouldn't necessarily care for).

I've also heard that hybrids in general are more likely to breed with anything you put them to and be less picky than pure bred animals.

people who come on this site not knowing anything about hybrids think they are ugly. Well the f1's are. But what most people don't know is you can't tell what the potential is until you breed the siblings together.

...there now I let the cat out of the bag!

I had the F1 generation CornXHonduran (corndurans) and they looked like dogs. The f2's looked fantastic and came out with a plethora of colors and aberancies. The same thing happened with the Jurassic. The f1's were dogs.

BTW Sash, the JurassicXcorn has not yet been done.

Ooh, really? Cool. Next year, we'll see what I get. I'm hopeful that my little boy jurassic is feisty and good to go (he's growing up fast!) and that my corn females I might put him to might be willing to try to mix themselves. A lot will depend on circumstances and on how ready they are to mate, but next year I will probably get at least one of my female corns to "tango" with my jurassic. I have a little unknown heritage girl corn who looks mighty odd to me... makes me think she is a creamsicle. She might be the only one I get to mix with the jurassic. Since I don't know her background, I feel I would have to advertise her babies as hybrids anyway, so why not go for a good combo.

It's funny to me that some of the snakes referred to as "dogs" have been ones I found the most visually pleasing. And the "stunning" ones are often the ones I find the least visually pleasing.

So I'm guessing if I do the corn/jurassic mix it will at least be of interest to those interested in hybrids.

The only other possible Jurassic mixes I might make next year are:

Jurassic by banana aberrant cal king
Jurassic by Splendida (if the splendida is a female)
Jurassic by pyro pyro (not likely but possible)

The pyro might work. I have thrown the Jurassics in with corns and had no interest. Hopefully you will be luckier than I was!

Great looking snakes you have the second pic is that a type of corn?
Lia

thanks Lia! Its a Honduran X Corn. The corn used in the breeding was a "snow striped motley het for hypo" so they come out all different colors.

Lia Jun 28, 2004 12:00 PM

What type personality does it have? I love the hondo colors but hate the Hondo personalaties. I have seen a few great looking hondo hybrids like yours and was curious of the tempermeant.

they take on the corn personalty.

The Jurassic Milks (honduranXflorida king)have a mellow personlity as well. They take on the Florida/brooksi personlaity. The babies are a bit aggressive but they tame dowm after they get a bit of size (about 6mo-1yr)then they are puppy dog tame.

Lia Jun 28, 2004 06:11 PM

Glad to hear that. I love many of the hondo hybrids but dont like the hondo personality. I have been eyeing several types of snakes and corn/hondos are certainly very nice looking.
Thanks.

Here are a couple Honduran X Florida kings i produced last year:

I will have '04's hatch this July.

flyfree Jun 30, 2004 10:27 AM

I have a clutch of eggs in the incubator from just such a pairing. The male is an amel corm and the female is a 50/50 banded cal king. If all goes well, they should be hatching within the next 2 weeks. I will post pictures as soon as possible.
