New Line of Pastels now out of eggs...

Wyatt Jun 25, 2004 01:42 PM

These was one of our dinking around projects and I guess now we are glad we dinked with it. The Dad is an African import we picked up a while back and the mom is a " Tiger " striped ball that likes to throw her pattern to her offpsring. For some odd reason I think this is going to be a killer line of Pastels !!! We would have ever imagined that he would be a pastel.

Here is the pic of Dad.

Pic of Tiger Mom.

Offspring..

Thanks,
Wyatt

The male and the babies look more like Arctics than Pastels to me Wyatt; either way they are beauts, congratulations!

I've got a girl that looks very similar and I had posted it before stating that I thought it was an axanthic pastel. I had very negative comments such as "no pastel in that" but I know better. She is eating like a pig and I should be able to breed her this upcoming season. Now Wyatt, you have proved the co-dominant/dominant gene in your line.Breed the male to one of his daughters and I think you will prove out the Recessive (axanthic) part of it. BAM! black and white pastels!Should be a killer project! Congradulations, Bill

After seeing your male I had to go check this girl. I took this pic a while ago and didn't get to many comments, except from one poster who wanted some babies when she is bred this coming season (she is a gerbil eater)! She really looks like your male and she will go this coming season. I was thinking of breeding her to a wc adult axanthic as my thinking was a 2 tone axanthic (?)(she is pictured with one of my other females for comparison). Now it appears from your project she may be infact a different pastel? Should be another interesting season coming up! Enjoy! I"ll try to get some outside pics of her this weekend.
