bts mites!!!

tonymarinara Jun 25, 2004 02:10 PM

i have discovered that my 2 bts are infested (poor babies!) i am going to start with just a plain water soak and a thorough cage cleaning. unfortunately, they are housed in a reptarium, so it will probably be a pain to clean. suprisingly, none of the rest of my collection has the mites! and there are others in the same room. i dont have snake or corn oil...will vegetable oil be safe to coat them with? the kind i have is labeled pure vegetable oil, but the ingredients say that it is soybean oil. right noiw, i have no way of getting a treatment other than this. any thoughts on whether this treatment should help? if they spread to the rest of my collection, i am going to go with predetory mites, but honestly, money is a little tight right now(isnt that when problems always arise?lol) otherwise id do it anyway. thanks alot for any ideas or suggestions

yuck. My bluey has mites too. The bad thing is that you have yer blueys in a reptarium. Mites are rotten creatures that will migrate...climb out of the tanks, up glass, across carpets and up walls in search of prey (reptiles). SO...what is really bad is that your other animals are VERY prone to the little creepies. What you need to do is get some black knight provent a mite ASAP. This is an amazing product that will eradicate the beasties and keep them gone. You are guaranteed problems if you are only doing fresh water soaks. Pest strips are bad ideas in my opion because they can be far more toxic to animals than proventa mite. i dont think i would go with any other product but black knight...although everyone has their opinions. You can order it from LLLreptile.com for 23$ shipped. It is so so worth it. Get it before you have more problems than not. good luck and keep me posted.
