I've heard people say not to use them because beardies hate them & can injure themselves trying to get out of them. That being said, Oolong has a T-Rex Reptile Comfort Leash, & he doesn't seem to mind it at all. The only problem I've ever had with him & the leash is that if he's wound up (like, say, at the vet's), he won't hold still to put it on, but seemingly more out of general fidgetiness than out of hatred for the leash.

I imagine it really depends on the individual dragon. Leashes are cheap, though, and very handy, so if you ever take your beardie outside, I'd say it's worth try. :}

I made some harnesses (for next to nothing) because the only thing I could find was for an iguana and it was expensive (~$10) and he grew out of it (girthwise).

This website gives you the directions you need. I think I made about 4 different ones for about $5. I bought purses at a thrift store (when you feel them, you can tell the ones that are GOOD leather). I also found some cheap cat collars for the clasps but I imagine you can also find just the clasp somewhere--we are not so much of textile town in Cincinnati.

I had fun making them, but I can see how some people would rather buy them.

ZZ didn't mind them eventually. He was annoyed and confused at first but soon relaxed with it on and we would go places. He would even walk on it (a little...not like a dog). It was a lot easier to control where he could go and at the same time, he could go and explore his environment instead of being held.

We were both happy!

My main herp Draconis loves his. He knows it's an indication of "going out", and he is very patient when I put it on him. After it's on, he generally rides on my shoulder or on the top of my passenger-side seat in the Jeep, and enjoys looking out the window. Something about vehicles fascinates him, and he'll watch cars and trucks zip along all day. He also loves all the attention he gets when we go to the local mall and pet shops, and sometimes he gets free waxies or supers.

It takes a little time to get them to adjust to harnesses. If they are already wary of other people, animals, etc..., then they probably won't take to them. The most important thing about leashes and beardies is NEVER LET THEM BE ALONE WITH THEM ON. They have a tendency to explore, and they can jump off of higher purchases and suspend themselves. This won't physically hurt them, but will shock them. They can also slip out of one if not firmly secured by them, and nothing is more heartbreaking than losing a pet due to stupidity.
