here's the pic of pogo's "questionable spot" on his tail...input appreciated

pogo_the_dragon Jun 25, 2004 04:07 PM

Here is a photo I took last night...It may be nothing and I'm just worrying over nothing..In the box you can clearly see that the scales in that area are slightly bigger and it's hard to tell from a top view but they are a little puffy looking and don't lay completely down like the rest..They appear from a side view to be slightly raised...Anyone seen this before? This normal? Something to worry about? It doesn't appear to bug him but that doesn't necessarily mean something could be wrong...I'd appreciate anyone's help on this!!

It can't be shed...I always am careful to watch his shedding and it isn't that...He always shed very good..I usually soak him too...I know the area looks lighten like it could be shed but it's not!!

from this angle you can clearly see how the scales are different from the rest....There almost really soft...not scaley!

Just soak it in some water or you can rub some baby oil on it to loosen it.......

Bennett is right, its just a bad shed, they may only shed a partial layer in some areas when there is actally several layers that normally shed at one time..... this is what has happened to him.

"There almost really soft...not scaley!"

That's exactly how I described the patch of bad shed on my dragon's tail. I didn't think it was shed at the time either, but I kept soaking and a week or so later it peeled off.

The coloring on mine doesn't even describe what I'd consider shed...It's the same coloring as the rest of him...it's not lighter at all...well it is, but hardly noticeable!!! Sorry to be difficult..I'm just really nervous about him...he's been so healthy lately since he got done with his coccidia problem!

My 10 month old had a spot that looked exactly like that and it was a shedding spot. I am not saying that is definately what your dragon has, but it sure looks just like what Fuego had on his tail.

Well, if you're really worried and pretty sure it isn't shed, you ought to take him to a vet and have a professional check it out.

Looks like it could be a piece of unshed skin but i can also see in that picture, a similar patch on the upper thigh of his left leg. I would soak the area and/or use baby oil to try and soften it up and see if it is just a piece of dead skin. However, if it gets worse or more indistinct, then I would think it's scale rot and/or a mold of some sort. You could take the dragon to a vet to check the spots to be on the safe side.
