can i put another young iguana in with my youngin

krondawg Jun 25, 2004 05:07 PM

I have had my green iguana since he was about a foot long,(was told by the pet shop owner he was about 2-3 months). I have now had him for about 7 months, and he is at most 18 inches long. He is not growing fast. But he eats alot, i feed him right. He has shed his skin 3 times. So to get him behaving i needed a cage with easy acces and on a stand. So I just built him a much larger cage on a stand. It will look very empty with one little iguana. I know he will get much bigger , but do they get along with male, female companions?
thanks

If you want a dead or badly injured iguana then by all means add another to your current iguanas habitat. Pick up, "Iguanas for Dummies" by Melissa Kalpan and read it. As well as go to www.greenigsociety.org and read all of their information on igs. Iguanas are solitary animals and they do get voilent with each other and that often results in death or serious injury. If you add another iguana to your current iguanas home then he will bully and beat up the new ig. If you wish to get another iguana GREAT!! But build him his own cage and give him his own habitat.

i agree me and my boyfried made a horrible mistake when we got our second iguana. they seemed to get along and even seemed to like each other alot. so we built a really big cage and put them both in it. it was fine for about a month. one night i woke up to all this noise and hurried to the cage. ellanor was chassing draco all around the cage. she bit him pretty bad on the neck. i opened the cage as fast as i could and draco ran into my arms. he was so scared he could barely breath. i felt so horrible. this was a about 6 months ago. the wound still has not fully healed. i put bentidine on it every day and it seems to help but im sure the scar will be there forever. now i cant even have them out at the same time because ellanor tries to get him again. just because they seem to get along now. dont mean a thing. sooner or later their gonna get mad and fight. dont make the same mistake i did.

I am glad i asked befor doing. You dont have to be a [bleep] about it and go it on your high horse. I give him a much better home than any pet shop would. i have kept very good care of jose, i am confident in my iguana keeping skills. I have not owned more than one iguan i would love to own tw expecially if it was a buddy to jose.
