Retic vs. Burm

cito Jun 25, 2004 06:41 PM

I currently have 2 burmese pythons each about 5 feet in length, and I'm looking to buy another snake. I'm torn between another Burm, or a baby Reticulated Python. I was wondering what the main differences are in terms of behavior and habits of the two snakes. Also, if I were to buy a baby Retic (22", what size cage would I house it in? I have an empty 4 foot vision which I was planning on the new snake occupying, but I've heard that baby snakes need smaller cages to feel secure. So its either the 4 foot vision, or a 30 gallon aquarium tank. If I put him in the 30 gallon, when should I move him up to the vision? Thanks alot.

The smaller snake should be ok in the bigger vision, but just make sure to give it a hide box where it can go to feel secure.

I have burms and just recently got some baby retics. The burms seem to be more laid back and content to just sit there and relax when being handled, or explore slowly. The retics seem to move almost constantly when being handled, and are much more curious. Ive heard some retics have an, almost extreme, feeding response, but I havent really noticed this with mine at all. They are two totally different snakes, but as far as retics being a great deal different, I havent noticed it yet, at least with the babies.
