a funny pic of Varanus beccari- great definition in head scalation..

I have noticed that V. beccari tend to have 'bumpier' skin on their heads when compared to V. macraei, V. prasinus, and V. boehmei. This pic shows the scalation rather well, and is sort of a comical picture.. Enjoy

Man, I wish I could sex my becarri!

I gave the animal away a year ago, and was given it back recently. After a year of reading and seeing pics on the 'net of animals, now I am wondering if my animal is the male I presumed it to be. Mine just doesn't 'look male' to me anymore. I don't have anything scientific to go on, just the fact I've gone kooky...

I'd say your pic looks male. Am I right??

this individual is a female. But I know what you mean about them looking a different sex... some days I can look at some of my beccari and see a male, and then other days, I see a female... I don't know what gives them this illusiveness... I can usually tell the sex between them usually by the shape of their tailbase in cross section.. but then again, there are some days.....

post a pic of yours, maybe some of us can take some stabs at guessing... take care goon,

bob

Cute picture, it looks like he is smiling for the camera. My camera is not that good to get incredible close ups like that. thanks for sharing.
