Qatmeal!!!

gmherps Jun 25, 2004 11:00 PM

I decided to put some oatmeal in with my super mealworms yesterday and today all the oatmeal is gone!
The mealies are so fat!
I use the Walmart brand of quick oats, and man o man they tore it up!!!
My base substrate is layena (aka: chick mash) but this oatmeal is great!
Also, I've used the gutload from www.progeckos.com and that too the mealies ate like crazy!
I'm thinking oatmeal and Cody's gutload ( the owner of progeckos.com) will be a great substrate for the super mealies!
Just thought I'd let ya'll know this!

That's good to know. I've just started trying to breed supers and I'm using a mix of oatmeal and wheatbran.

I have used "Quaker Oats Instant Oatmeal" mixed with "TimberLine: Cricket Food & Bedding Material." The Bedding Material especially made for storing for Superworms and Mealworms. After years of trying new Ideas this mixture works for me. "Easy Water", Potatoes, Oranges, and other fruits used to have water & liquids avaliable at all times. With the use of Shoe boxes or Sweater boxes filled with 2 1/2" of Oatmeal mixture, 1" of Bedding Material, water sources, and temperatures between 70F-80f my colonies go rapidly. Anyone else have setups that work for them? I always appreciate new esperiences and Ideas.
