DARK PATCH ON HIS BACK??STRANGE

gavinclews Jun 26, 2004 04:38 AM

Over the last few days my beardie has been acting strange. He is male, fully grown and has never had any problems with anything before. He isnt basking much and he just goes to the cool side of my viv and lies down. Sometimes he is asleep and sometimes not. He isnt really eating as much as normal but i havent changed any temps or time of lighting etc... so it cant be that. Also i have noticed a colour change in him but not all over, just on one funny shaped patch on his back. It seems alot darker than all the rest of him. It doesnt look like a burn to me but i dont really know what one would look like on a beardie. He has lived in this viv for five years and has been very happy. Also, my other two females that live with him are ok and happy.

I WILL BE HAPPY TO HEAR EVERYONES VIEWS ON THIS.

don't know if the discoloration has anything to do with it. usually a bad shed is lighter not darker in color. if you feel that it is a problem get a biopsy at your vet. Where do you live? what is the wather like there? some BDs are more atune to barametric pressure and will change eating and sleeping habbits as weather fronts move through.

I live in nottingham, England so i dont really know about that. My beardies since i have had them dont really shed that well and i dont know why. They are very healthy and get all af the food they need and i bath them every two days but they always seem to shed in patches. This particular one has shed on his head, then a week later on his legs, then his tail and his body has never shed yet. I have had him around 5 months. Is this strange? I dont really know how i could improve it? any ideas?

well it looks like you have a front moving through with lots of wet weather. this can sometimes throw them off their eating schedule.

once they hit 3 months or so they only shed in patches. the older they get the less often they shed.

Make sure the cage is very dry. if you bathe him that often, his skin needs to dry out so it can flake off.

YEAH THANX. THE ONLY REASON I BATH THEM THAT MUCH IS THAT THEY SEEM TO LOVE SWIMMING ROUND IN THE BATH.
