what tank size do i need for aq 4 foot snake??

The rule of thumb often given here is that width plus depth of the base of the enclosure should equal or exceed the length of the snake. Thus, for a 4-foot snake, a tank with a 3-foot by 1-foot base, or 2 feet by 2 feet, would be adequate. As for the height of the tank, and thus the total volume, that will depend more on what kind of snake it is. If it's arboreal and likes to climb (e.g., tree snake, vine snake, most rat snakes), you would need more height.
