new gopher owner

hi i was at a reptile show today and got a S-D(i think this means san diego)gopher snake that is het for albino.im not planning on raising it for breeding but it was my favorite out of the bunch.it was 45 bucks.it is about 1 and a half to 2 feet long.it also has some nice red coloration to it.i have it set up in a 10 gallon aqaurium with aspen bedding a water dish hide spot and a sixty watt reptile buld over head for heating.i will get a heat pad as soon as possible but fornow ihope this will do.am i caring for this snake properly.i would appreciate adny comments.thanks for your time

Hey there!

See what the temp is in the room he will be kept in. If the temps are around maybe 76-82 give or take, you may not need to have any heat source. Pits do really well with cooler temps. Check out the thread below about this very subject.

thanks for the help billy.i just have one more question.in the house we have an attic fan that we use instead of an air conditioner.is this ok.the reason for this is it is much cheaper.ill check the temps adn get back to you.so what is the lowest possible night time and the highest possible day time temps.thanks for your time and sorry for all the questions but im new at these snakes,i just had to pick him up at the show though.he reminded me of a bull snake i once had and had who is now deceased(wild caught snake).only he has a very red tent to him on his back.htanks for your time
