ribbon eating TOO much?

HerpGirl Jun 20, 2003 08:06 AM

after my ribbon doesnt eat for a few days i give him fish a little larger than standard rosy reds.i try to let him eat until he is content and doesnt want anymore but he has eaten over 20 fish in a day and a half! he will usually eat 30 in 2-3 days! so i usually buy 30 fish every saturday and put them all in his bowl becuase i dont have anything large enough to keep all those fish in! i have empty 10 and 20 gallon tanks but i dont have filters or gravel or room to put them! he is always really huge and he has been eating like this for months. i have never had a problem with him bringing them bake up like our eastern king that will if she eats more than 5 mice.i was thinking that maybe its becuase i keep the temp so high, i dont remember what i last recorded it at becuase im not at my house, im working. but he is always so round that his scales are spred so you can see white between them. i dont really want to give him less becuase he is always searching for food then. i was also giving him larger fish that he would eat less quantities of but i found that if i give him smaller fish he eats better and doesnt stress out as much becuase with the big fish he would have to turn them around and keep trying untill he would get them down and he was still constantly watching his surroundings. how much does ur eastern ribbon eat?

my Western Ribbon eats variable amounts. he averages 6 to 8 rosy reds a week. when i first got him, i watched him eat 14 in one feeding but he rarely does that now. sometimes it seems like he's too distracted to eat.
