I GOT BIT!!! Infection possible?

r3ptile Jun 26, 2004 09:28 PM

I knew it would happen eventually, it wasnt due to any SFE's but I was just wondering if it was neccesary to get a tetanus shot or if I could contract some sort of illness/disease/infection from this that could be major. I know that rats can have diseases/rabies so its conceivable that this bacteria also exists in the snakes mouth. Just some info, he hasnt eaten in about a month, and I put peroxide on the cuts a few minutes afterwards. Does anyone with experience know if I should get a tetanus shot??

You can get an infection from any kind of wound. I've been bitten countless times and never had a problem. I wouldnt worry about it too much. Put some neosporin on it, and keep it covered like any other abrasion. Heck most times, i dont even put a bandaid on it, or wash it off lol.

Oh my god! How could you let yourself get bit!!! Now you must chop off the affected area (I just pray that it did not bite you on your torso, that can get messy LOL.
As long as none of the teeth are in the bite (you would know, it is like having a splinter in the cut) you will make it. Just a bit of soap and water, or heck spit and a hankie works too LOL (just like Mom use to do!) I have been bit from every thing to 120lbs Burm to a newly hatched corn and never had any problems! Don't worry about it, just make sure you bite the snake back to teach it not to bite!......

Ahh, just kidding on the biting the snake back thing, you could really make it mad that way LOL

Unfortunately the only option is to pen yourself in or tie yourself up to a large tree. Then when Little Arliss tries to enter your house or yard, you will have an unusual amount of frothing saliva, and big brother Travis will have to shoot you.Luckily,Fess Parker will bring home another smaller, younger version of yourself and all will be fine.Scratch that,FessParker is dead.

Just giving you a hard time.As Hoppy said, keep it clean and you should be fine...unless you start frothing at the mouth,or are unusually friendly... or reserved. Then, a shotgun blast to the temple is the only viable option.

This has been a fun read on a Sunday morning. Nice to see we all have a sense of humor here. What they said is all in fun do not get upset or take it seriously. Now for the truth.,

You will progressively develop scales and eventually like only warm hunmid climates so move to Florida. Also don' be surprised if you find yourself snacking out of the freezer on mousepops.

Ummm rabies is a virus and only mammals are viable hosts so even if you insist on feeding your boa rabid rats you cannot possibly contract it from his or her bite. If you did encounter a rat you suspected of being rabid I hope you wouldn't feed it to you snake and that you'd change where you buy feeders.
