i got a yellow conda

hippyguy Jun 26, 2004 11:17 PM

hey, i got a female yellow, at the texas reptile show in tulsa, today.it had the best personality of the bunch. i held it a few times at the show to give it a chace to bite, but nothing, so i am thinking cool, i mean it was still alert, so thats good, ya no. well i got her home not expecting it when i take her outta her container, in to her cage, she laches on my thumb, kinda funny. she is only about a foot, it barly broke the skin, well, it was frightened, cant blame her, i put her in the cage, she made a few laps arodn the cage, and sat in the water bowl, and then went into the humidity hide, havent seen her sence. i am pretty sure she will come out when she is less scared. i was told she was eating f/t or p/k hoppers. the guy i bought her from seems cool, i got a few other things from him too, hope he is at the next show.i was talkin to a guy about taming down anacondas, he said just let it bite until it doesnt want to anymore, just don tput her down. is this a good method, or is there a better one??? i am up for anything, i just want to tame her down before she is to big, ya no. umm, i think that is about it, as soon as she settles in, i will take some pics and what not, id liek to no what you think. this is my second yellow, but it wsa already tame so i didnt have to worry bout that. ya. well sry bout all the miss spelled words, and i am sure some stuff doesnt make sense, so sry
peace, jonathanM

I would wear gloves and take them off while holding the snake...this helps mask you heat and can help the snake from avoiding biting in the first place...plus, if it does you wont be as jumpy so the snake will see how little it phases you. Took about 1 week of glove work to completely tame my green...took about 1 hour of possibly un needed glove work to tame the yellows. I like it and do that with all my snake and I can take everything out of the cage bare handed with no bites or worries (even from hides). the one exception is one amazon tree boa that will refuse to work with me...but he is better than when I got him. (I really dont care since it will never be a threat, just a pain.

Congrats on your new conda. I would do what you are doing and leave it be until it decides it is comfortable. By the way, do you live in Texas? Just wondering because I do.
I can't figure out why a Texas herp show would be in Tulsa either. Oh well, welcome to the conda forum and I hope you enjoy your yellow.

hey, she is pokin her head out a little, that is a good sign. I am still not going to try and handle her for a few more days. sadly i live in arkansas. when you where talkin about the glovs, did you mean pick her up out of her cage with the gloves and then as i am holding her, take them off? and if that is what you meant, how long do you wait while holding her to take them off. the only pic i have of her is when i first got her, not that great of a pic, i cant wait till she gets more comfortable around me, so i can take more. well thanks

yes, and wait until you feel the snake has calmed down. then just take them off and handle bare handed

Also learn your snake. My green hates to be played with in the morning. (she tackled me the other day u can read about in "Cody vs. Annie" post) Best with your conda and welcome to the forum.
