To answer some of the questions about Zoe's cage...

icequeen Jun 20, 2003 08:47 AM

Here is a detailed pic of where and what things are in his cage.

The types of plants that are in his cage are Pothos, spider plants, asparagus ferns, dwarf schefflera and there is a christmas cactus tucked down in the corner as well, where he can't get to it.

The feeding cup is held in place with a black nylon zip tie, around the center pole.

As far as plans for the cage go, there aren't any. My Dad just did it "free hand". The total cost was less than $60.00 as he used stuff he had around the house. (He's "Ron of all trades", and has that kind of stuff just kicking around, in case the urge to build something takes over!)
The only things that were bought new were the screen, the lucite panels, and the enamel that he painted it with.
The hinges and handle on the door are antique brass hardware he had "laying aroung" as well.

He swears he'll never do it again though. He hated working with the aluminum screen, and he's never satisfied with his own work, so he doesn't like it very much. And yet, every time he talks about it he says things like...if I ever make another one, I'll do this or that differently.
Every time I talk to him, he asks how Zoe is doing, and how he's adjusted to his new home.
(bear in mind though, this is the same man that has had both cruciate ligaments replaced in his DOGS legs...and then built a gazebo so the dog didn't SUNBURN where he's been shaved!! I don't even remember having sunscreen when I was a kid, let alone a GAZEBO!!!)

I'm already asking for suggestions from him on how to build Dills cage...and he's saying..."well, I could do the doors for you", or..."don't go spending money on vents...I've got some here you can have"
He does the whole gruff and grumble bit...but I think he secretly loves it! I'll never let on though! I'll just let him think it's his idea!
I'm just grateful to have his help, and experience!

Anyway...thank you everyone, on behalf of my Dad, for all the compliments on his handiwork!!

I need some of those vine things you have in your cage.
How did you attach them?
I always see them at the pet store, but I can never figure out a secure way to attach them without cutting holes in the screen.

Your cage is actually what I had originally intended the style of Zoe's to be. My Dad just used some artistic license...and who am I to try and stop him?! hehehehehe...

I'm sure your chameleon LOVES his home, and is quite content!
