Egg development and laying

juliecwuk Jun 27, 2004 02:54 AM

Hi all,

My female and male have been together since june 4th (just over three weeks), she has got a huge stomach (eggs), and i was wondering how long it the time between a successful mating and egg laying. This last week she has got huge, and has been off her food, is this a sign of egg laying occurring soon? I have provided her with two moist hides, one with moist soil and one with moist vermiculite, over the last couple of days she has pretty much emptied most of the contents out of both boxes.

Thanks in advance

Leopard geckos lay eggs between two to three weeks after a successful copulation. The reduced appetite is normal for females about to lay and the nesting behavior (throwing all the substrate out of the boxes) is a good sign that she will lay in a day or two.Good Luck!

Well, she did lay but the eggs are almost definately infertile. They are significantly 'depressed' on top. as it was her first clutch i was not expecting them to be fertile anyway!

I cant wait until the next clutch now! On the same day my day geckos laid their first clutch too, except they look lovely and healthy!

Thanks again
Julie
