Breeding weight for borneos?

snaker Jun 27, 2004 07:37 AM

I have .1 2 year old 3 ft borneo that I would like to breed at some point in the future. I have not been able to find any reference as to the optimum weight for breeding females. What I've come across so far states 2-3 years old and over 3 ft. I would like to find a guide for weight since the bloods carry most of their size in their girth. You could have 2 snakes at 3.5 feet with one weighing twice the other. Mine has grown steadily since I've had her but I have seen yearling blacks that were almost twice her size. I have been carefull not to over feed her but want to make sure she is in good shape before even starting the process.

As I don't even have a boyfriend for her yet It is going to be awhile. Can anyone give me some info on optimium (not minimum) wieghts for females?

I know of breedings at weights of 7-8lbs, but I would recommend a minimum of 10-12lbs depending on length and age. Also, age is a factor and 3-4 four years is a minimum in my opinion.

I have held off breeding any of my females until they were at least 12lbs and 3.5-4.0ft.

Does this weight of 8-12lbs apply only to females???
Im imagining its ok to use a male that is lighter than this??

Yes, I was specifically addressing females, but did not clarify that. I know others who have used much smaller males for breeding with good success. I personally get concerned with breeding a pair with significant size disparity.

These two were taken just to show size and age difference and I would not trust breeding the male until he gets more size on him. My girls tend to be a bit rough

Rich
What do you think would be a minimum size/weight for a male to breed at?

LOL you know its tempting tho Rich! Those Sarawaks look absolutely awesome, too bad they grow so slowly. Good luck with em.
