Need help with red headed agama

buddy1900 Jun 27, 2004 08:19 AM

I have a red headed agama that I have questions about. Mainly, what sex it is. The salesman said it was a male but I'm not so sure anymore. In the picture here he is all brown but of course they change color. His head and tail will turn bright red but his body will only turn a kind of blueish grey. Is this because he is young, or is it because he is a girl? I wish I could photograph him when he does this but he becomes a maniac when he sees the camera in those colors. I want to get him a mate at the retile expo coming up in a couple weeks so I need to know. I'd really appreciate some help.

If hes turning bright red on his head and tail then it would seem you have a male.

The color intensity changes from different locales.

Female are a bit smaller, and body stays browish, they do get a light orangey head color.

But males are red as you are describing. I have a friend who breeds them, many of them, if you would like to ask more questions go to the chuckwalla forum, and give JohnC. a holler.

Just put that in subject line JohnC, can you help with agama question!

Hope you get your girl and come back soon and post many little redheads for us, ehehhehehehe
