beardiedragon Jun 27, 2004 11:21 AM

Just saw this posted on aother site and had to just say I cant believe what some people will do

"These are a breeding pair, the female is 230 grams and the male is at 290 grams. These are a little over 3 years old. "

this makes me so mad AAAAAHHHHHH and some unsuspecting newbe will get these poor animals and add to the problem.

I hear you Bennett!

On another note, I wish that people would enjoy their pets and not HAVE to breed. IF you do not want to start a business and do it right, leave the breeding to the people who know how to do it best (and I include many people on this forum, who are dedicated to the care of their animals). Don't just breed your dragon because you think it would be "cool" to have eggs, or you think you can make a little money. I look at breeding beardies like breeding cats, there are already a lot that need good homes, why not just enjoy your pet and leave it at that?!

I agree 100% with both of you.

It's so frustrating and sometimes I want to set people straight but it feels so hopeless. Even if you can convince one, there are hundreds if not thousands of others right behind them doing the wrong things for the wrong reasons. Sometimes I wish I could just plug my ears and close my eyes and pretend it wasn't like that, but it's just not that simple.

just a quick story on that note...
When I got my wolves(hybrids) I thouht about breeding them. I took them to my vet for a checkup and caught hell for wanting to bring more unwanted animals into the world. I thought about it and remembered how hard it was when I bred papered German Shepards. It seems so simple until you start running into all the "$!%t, didn't count on that". I got them both fixed shortly after that. Do you see people breeding other animals the way they do BDs?

BTW, long time no see, good to see you back.

I see all sorts of people breeding every type of animal! With stellar reasons like, " I want my kids to see the miracle of life, but oh no I won't pay for a c-section. I didn't count on her getting sick just put her down", or " I am going to sell the puppies for $500 a piece. Oh, you want me to give the puppies, exams, shots and deworm them? I can't affod that!" or my favorite, " I didn't think the bunnies would breed that fast. I just took the babies to the shelter."

UGH! I just want to strangle them. I am ok with responsible and selective breeding. After all, I bought a BD from a breeder, but I also have a rescue beardie and my very first BD as a rescue. I just wish people would do eacatly what you did and think about their choices before they act. My mom always told me "if you aren't part of hte solution you are part of the problem." Thank you for the welcome. I am glad to be back. I miss you guys and YOUR fabulous pictures!!

ughhh, that miracle of life BS is a joke. If you want your children to witness the miracle of life, rent a video tape. Otherwise they may witness a lot more than you bargained for, like the miracle of death.

Unfortunately I went through that as a child. One of my cats got pregnant and every one of the kittens died, but not after they were around long enough to get attached to. I don't blame my mom she didn't know better and it was no fault of hers the kittens died, but I learned a lesson from it, that's for sure. No breeding for me, thank you very much.
