unlimited mealworms

i work at a nature center and for about the past month our dragons haven't reallybeen eating. today i noicd that there were mealworms liveing in there cage so they had to been eating them. is it ok for them to have mealworms anytime they want?

yes it is ok. just as long as the mealworms arnt nipping at the dragons while there sleeping. try collecting the meal worms and putting them in a bowl of dish.

Mealworms are not a good staple. Too much chitin and too little nutritional content. Fine for a treat now and then, but not on a regular basis.

beautifuldragons.com has a chart for nutritional content of different foods for beardies and is says to feed mealworms to them rarely. This is what else it says...

"Low calcium, high phosphorus & fat, hard chitin shell"

Not good for regular eating. Gut loaded crickets or silkworms are much, much better.

The hard shell can also impact your lizard and kill it, depending on the age.
