Are pine/bull/gopher snakes stinkier than other snakes?..More...

dmac Jun 27, 2004 03:48 PM

I have had boas for two years now and am thinking about getting a colubrid for my 8 year old son. He is very responsible, and I was thinking about getting something like maybe a pink leusistic pine and putting it in a boaphile 321 tank in his room. I've heard that these types of snakes have a musk gland or something like that as a defense mechanism, and they are stinkier that other colubrids. Is this true, or one of those rare things that only the neonates do, or something like that? Also any good link to a pine snake care sheet would be appreciated. Thank-you.

There is nothing any more annoying than a neonate king or milk usking when you pick it up. Pits are no where near as bad as they are and would compare with your boa easily. Boas can defecate etc on you but nowhere as bad as some of the milks and kings as neonates.

As far as care go to the piuophis page for info. and then for specific questions try back here.

Any chance you'll be at the F.I.R.E. in Orlando or Daytona this year with something like that?

No we will not be exhibiting at either one as it is a little far for us this year anyway. I will probally go to the Daytona show just to see some friends.
