question about firebellies

kim01 Jun 27, 2004 06:53 PM

I have two firebellied toads, which I bought about 1 week ago. One of them, the male, has developed two bright green spots on his back - one that's really small and one that is sorta small. The spots have been there for 2 days, and the frog is a lot less active then it has been (except for his croaking - he's croaking a lot). I have a ten gallon tank with an underwater filter. I started turning on a heat lamp to keep the tank at about 70 degrees f, about 3-4 days ago. I turned off the filter today and the frog seems to be a little more active, but not as active as he was when I bought him. Could the spots be from stress, from a scratch from something, or a fungal infection? I can't seem to find too much info on it - either in the books I have or on the internet. Anyone got any suggestions? also - if I leave the filter off, how often should I do a complete tank cleaning?

hey if the spots are just on the back of the neck then dont worry about it all three of mine have them and they have been fine for 2 years but i dont know anything about the less active but i dont think it has anything to do with the spots.

Thanks for your info. He's back to being active, but he still has the spots. I guess I won't worry about him possibly dieing anymore.
