Eye issues, and not acting well

Kimberlee Jun 27, 2004 09:11 PM

Hi everyone,
My Collared, Scout, seems to have some eye problem going on. Today, he didn't have either one open. I thought maybe they were stuck shut, like with pink eye or something. So I used a warm cloth, and eventually he was able to open them. Then I put him in the window to get some sun and he ate a lot of crickets and seemed fine. Now, lights out and time for bed, and he's in a strange position in the cage, not his normal sleeping spot. His eyes are closed, but he keeps opening and closing his mouth. He just doesn't look right. He's been eating fine, and he just shed the other day. His color looks good, nice and green. Any suggestions? Thanks!

as for any problem the best thing you can do is go to a vet. i know my advice is not very helpful but only they can tell you for sure and prevent anything from getting worse

Is there any swelling? I just went through a long illness with my female that finally ended with euthanasia. I do NOT what to scare you, but if it does not clear up in a few days I would consider making a visit to the vet. My female started with slight swelling around one eye that showed improvement with warm compresses. Unfortunately we (the vet and I) think that the eye was secondary to a large abcess that had basically taken over her skull. Abcesses and infections can be tricky to treat, so the faster you can begin fighting whatever it is, the better the chance your lizzie has.

Then again, maybe it is nothing and a few days of warm compresses will clear it up!

Good luck and keep us posted.

Laura
