Chris_la Jun 27, 2004 09:25 PM

I have a small 18" alligator, i was cleaning its cage and placed it in a wire mesh cage for about an hour. well today i noticed that he has a sore across the frony of his snout with a scab over it. should i use antibiotics and keep him out of the water for a couple of days or what? well thanx, any help is greatly appreciated.

Supperglue, it works.

I wouldn't start smearing superglue on an open wound - if you (anyone) doesn't what to do and when, you could do more harm than good (such as sealing bacteria inside the wound). Use extreme caution before taking ANY medical advise from non-medical people - a good vet will not diagnose without seeing the patient, and there is a reason for that besides billing.

My non-vet advise (this is where you analyse it to see if it makes sense for you and yours) is just keep it clean and leave it alone. Remove the condition that caused it to happen.

Question, I thought you were going to let the illegal animal(s) go?

I agree with Bill, but if you still want to tend to the problem,I suggest, you use some liquid bandage.I have had good luck with that.It is a good anteseptic, and when it dries,it creates a waterproof cover for the damage area.

I let all go but this one....i was thinking about keeping him and applying for a permit. but when i went to apply for the permit, it asked for dealer inf and receipt..so i dont think i can do it. but im keeping him until his wounds heal...i wont feel right releasing him with damage that i caused.
