silkworms for anoles?

jwainhause Jun 27, 2004 09:44 PM

Due to the end of the public school year, I've just added two anoles to my collection of creatures. I believe they are basic american anoles. Has anyone had any success feeding silkworms to anoles? I have a regular supply of silkworms on hand to feed my dragons and would prefer to stick with just worms if I can.

I have read that they are one of the best foods for Anoles except for the fact that they get so big so fast. They would be perfect for me since my Anole takes cut up pieces from a tweezers. I just wish I could find someone locally that will sell a small number of them at a time.

There's some mention of the the subject here under feeding.

Looks like they are good eats for anoles but I now see the big problem. They won't eat em cuz they are not running around like neurotic little crickets. How did you get you guys to eat from tweezers?

I fourtunatly don't have to worry about the amount of worms. I have 5 dragons so I stay pretty stocked up on worms - my uros get them as treats every once in a while also. Long before they get big enough for my dragons I can snatch em out for the anoles.

Well, I think it has to do with the rescue story. She was near starved to death when I got her and I saved her by putting bits of wax worms against her mouth with a tweezers. Little by little, she started tasting them. It got to where she would run across the tank and attack and almost pull the tweezers out of my fingers. I guess it's just what she's used to.

Try the same thing. Hold a piece of the silkworm close or even try to touch their mouths and slowly but surely they may take a taste. If they get used to it, you're in business. Let us know if it works.

My female loved it when I used tweezers to feed her. The only problem is they can become somwhat dependent on it if you do it to often. Make sure to every now and then let one loose and see if your anole will go for it. I agree that if you put it right up to their mouth and they get a taste that it will 9 times out of 10 do the trick. Once they realize the tweezers are not meant to hurt them they will look forward to seeing it
