Update on Buddy's condition

L0wrider Jun 28, 2004 12:05 PM

well i decided to try and force feed Buddy. I tried to open his mouth, and it didnt work because I didnt want to hurt him.

So I decided to take him outside where it had to be about 94 degrees and he got more active. I decided to try to feed him the "soup" I made for him. this soup is his greens, some water, and his veggies. Buddy licked some off his lips and started to open his mouth for it! he drank about 8cc or so of it. Then he ate a few pieces of greens.
We have and appointment for the vet today. it looks liek he has intestinal parasites. he hasnt eaten in a few days so there has been no stool. only urin and thick goey stuff (forgot what its called) but it smelled really bad.

ill post after the vets.

i hope hes ok...

Definitely let us know how he's doing! It's a good sign, though, that he was willing to eat. He's a fighter! Good call on not trying to force the force feeding - uros' jaw muscles are strong enough to break the jawbone if you try to force it when they are clamped down.

So we went to the vets today. Buddy is a full grown male and he ways 282g. he is dehydrated and is now eating critical care food (a food for herbivours in critical care...) and babyfood.

He also got an antibiotic shot, on batryl (antibiotic) for 10 days, got wormed and some water. The vet said he has a 50/50 chance to survive.

Here is a pic of Buddy, he doesnt look good....

I may have missed it in an earlier post, but what are the conditions that led up to mbd (or his current condition). Also as far as books, I think the most vast and easily accessible info out there is on the web. Search for 'Randall L. Gray'.

We got him this Sat. at a reptile show n Coconut Grove. We didn't realize how bad he was until we got him home and looked at him closer. Who knows what went on in the past with him. The vet said he doesn't look like he has MBD but he is in bad shape. We (my son LOwrider & I) mainly my son are doing our best to pull him through this.

Sorry you , your son, and Buddy, have to experience this.

These are very NEAT lizards, its a shame, that some people dont take the time to care for them, and they sell them sickly!

And then the good guy buys them, and has their heart breaking the whole time taking care of them.

Like I say, I hope he turns around, and grows BIG AND STRONG and Healthy, real Soon.

hey there!
sorry for the condition of your uro but hang in there. i rescued a lovely little female mali and she is getting better! she was always a picky eater and barely ate anything. now that i have the worms out of her, i cannot keep up with her eating! just keep giving him TLC and remember, no matter what happens, the moments he is with you will be the happiest moments of his life because you care about him!

I'm sorry that your buddy is sick. I hope he gets better real fast.

L0wrider Jun 29, 2004 01:35 PM

Today Buddy is showing alot more energy. he used to hide all day, but we got his temps down to 113 and he stays in the heat lamp. He also ate more critical care food. he had alot more than yesterday.

On a lighter note, he saw my cat and snuggled on its stomach. the cat looked at it, then went back to sleep.

Buddy is getting better. :P

ok well we fed him agian. we tried to give him water from the syringe, and he drank loads of it. after he would open his mouth for some more.

we soaked him and he was moving around in the water.

the most promising news was he ate a bite af salad all on his own. he was in his enclosure and my mom checked up on him. then she said "hes eating." and he got scared ad stopped. i could still see him chewing some food as he walked away.

more news as it comes.
