hi, i been searching all over the local petstores, but none of them have small mealworms. i was wondering would "regular" mealworms be ok for my gecko? the meal worms are like 3/4 - 1" in length, my gecko is approx 4" in length (head to tip of tail), i feed it 2 mealworms, and it took awhile but swallowed the entire worm, i know the head size - food rule, but i dont think it applies to mealworms, because they are never as wide as half of the head. thanks for any advice. i hate using small crickets, i keep loosing them all over the cage, annoying.

Sometimes petstores will have older batches of mealworms that are really big and fat. Just try to pick the batch of younger mealworms that are smaller and skinnier. Babies don't have a problem handling regular-size mealworms. Just don't feed the fatter inch-long ones.

If you worry about them being too big, feed them to her slowly so she has time to finish licking and swallowing before she eats the next mealworm.

My Hatchlings all start on medium mealworms.. about 5 a day until they hit 3 weeks.. then they go to slightly larger mealies and more of them... as many as they want. The reason I limit the first 3 weeks of intake is to make sure they eat A. consistantly, B.. their digestive tracts are doing well and their gut flora are flourishing and C... to make sure they know their own stomach limits and won't over-eat.
