shed ?

harberrat Jun 28, 2004 02:40 PM

my mali has been shedding a few days now and for the first time since i got him in jan. he stays in his hide most of the time, although he does venture out. his appetite has slowed also. he seems to be in full shed as the head torso and tail are peeling. i noticed today that his toes were twitching, kind of involuntary. i don't think it is related to nervous system problems as he walks and runs as normal. could this be because he is uncomfortable while shedding? thanx for all replies!

I don't know about the toe twitching, but the hiding and less appetite is normal. They are definitely crankier when shedding, so maybe it's itchy or tickly and the toes are annoying.

Involuntary toe twitching can be a sign of calcium deficiency...You may need to increase your supplementation or replace your UVB bulb if it's been in place for awhile...If untreated the twitching can progress and eventually lead to convulsions...
