Black patches on eggs--Update

kohrn Jun 28, 2004 04:33 PM

I posted here a couple of weeks ago asking about black patches on two of my eggs, and a large black and red patch on one egg. I was told to decrease the water in the vermiculite. The black patches got smaller and fainter, but the one with the black and red patch (blood colored), remained about the same. (Because of the way she laid the eggs, this one was more or less on the bottom of the pile and it made sense that it might be the wettest. I decided it probably wasn't worth it to dig up the whold pile and try separating them to put them all on a more even level). I basically figured the black and red one was dead (patch covered almost one third of the surface), but I left it in the incubator just in case. When I went to look at the eggs today I noticed that the black and red one had sort of colapsed, but there was a head (quickly withdrawn) poking out. My first pipping! Are the others likely to follow quickly, or could there be some relationship between the damaged look and the fact that this is the first to show its head. (They are at 58 days).
Excitedly

No the markings on the eggs were most likely some sort of mold that if just in small ammounts will not affect the eggs. The rest should start pipping ASAP.
Good luck!
