wierd panther eye

mister_pokey Jun 28, 2004 06:57 PM

i got my 3 month old ambanja male panther a week ago, after the second day of recieving him i noticed he does this wierd thing with his eye,.... he will shut one at a time and the while its shut he will "bug" it at the corner of his eye... kinda hard to explain... lets say you have a small water ballon, and you squeeze it, it will make a smaller little bubble temprarily, and when you stop squeezing it, it goes back to normal.. he doesnt seem to get upset by it.

anyways he is keep in a all screen cage (24x24x48) with a ficus, 5.0-UVB bulb and 100 watt basking bulb (both zoo med) humidity 50%-60% mean temp of 78-85*F basking spot (bulb 12 inches away) is about 93* ....... he drinks regularly and eats like a champ..

Repcal-Minerall supplements
Crickets Gutloaded
Distilled Water

all my temps are accurate, and my care is proper... im an advanced chameleon keeper, but have never seen this before... please respond if you are familiar with this..

Thanks In Advance.

The bulging of the eye is normal for chameleons. He/she is pushing debris out of the eye when doing that - its one way they clean their eyes. If the cham is soing it all the time on one particular eye - then there may be something in there bothering it. I have this bulb thing used for human baby ears that looks like a small turkey baster which I fill with warm water. I gently squirt the warm water into the eye to help remove anything stuck in there.

Instead of using plain water try sterile contact lens rinse solution. It will sting less and soothe the eye more.
