New Blizzard from LLL reptile...

rayvendawn Jun 28, 2004 08:17 PM

I just bought a blizzard from LLL reptile and it turned out to be very dark and skinny. It looks like it used to be healthy and fat but now its so skinny it looks sad!
Here is a picture of my YOUNGER patternless next to the new bliz.

Did you get it delivered or from a show? That gecko isn't that healthy and never should have been sold without telling you its condition.

It has a badly kinked tail (excusable if you saw it first), but looks like it has lost (or never gained) a lot of weight.

Either way, you need to quarantine all new geckos for at least 30 days, preferrably 90 away from your other animals. Keep them apart, so if the new one has any diseases or parasites, it won't spread them to any other herps you have. Ideally, you should have a fecal or two done before introducing them to your others and wait 90 days for anything bad to manifest itself.

Now, quarantine it and any others you've had it near, like this patternless. If you find out the blizzard has anything, you'll need to get the other(s) checked and probably treated as well.

Good luck

I agree with Rob.
I hope it doesn't have anything but the leo does not look good and it may very well spread whatever it has. Get a fecal done asap, and keep it away from your others.
I would personally be pissed if I got something like that and I was expecting a healthy animal. I would contact them asap as well.

I ordered the leopard gecko about 2 weeks ago so I can't return it. I had a friend order it actually and had it delivered to his house, and I didn't know what the gecko looked like until I picked it up from his house today. We gave the gecko some crickets but I don't think it has eaten anything. I'm really disappointed in it, I paid 60 bucks for a sickly lizard. It acts fine though...I'm still worried. I notified the site about it, although I can't do anything about it now.

LLL is a very poor breeder. Every animal i've bought rather it be a leo gtp or whatever dies. Many of my friends have had this problem. Also don't buy from vms sean will send you sick leos as well. Buy from crestedgeckos, bensiegal or petes geckos.

what wrong with VMs and I bought some from them and I seen no problems and I fatten them up in no time and I took to vet and all test were negtive atfer 30 days... their Geckos are cricket eaters and you will have to swtich over slowly and it is normal for junviles to be skinny if they are a cricket eater from my experince.

I won't even post the pic of the leo that was sent to me for it discusts me. A friend and i went in on an order that was over five hundreds dollars. Tey 4 out of 5 have died and the fifth is on it's death bed. Sean (vms) would do nothing about it. We emailed him several times sent him pics and even sent him copies of vet bills. The animals he sent all had parasites. I have 26 other leos that i've never had problems with. Yes they all have there own homes.

I can't believe you would promote buying from a reseller (ben siegel, who runs an amazing business but regardless he is not invested in breeding leos) over a well known and respected breeder such as Sean from VMS.

My biggest and healthiest leos came from Sean, VMS, 3 years ago.

I would do business with him again in a heartbeat, but I am quite proud to have built up a large enough collection that I have chosen to keep my colonies closed to outside bloodlines for a few years.

I've purchased three animals from LLLReptile. They came in healthy and eating. I must've been fortunate...

I too purchased a new gecko from LLLreptile. It is perfectly healthy, except she's still pretty skinny. I got it like 3 weeks ago, and she still is pretty tame when it comes to eating. When first got her, I was feeding her exclusively vitamin dusted crickets. I then switched to mealworks, because they are easier to keep. She fed like crazy on them for the first 2 days or so. Then she slowed down considerably. The temp looks good in the tank, but Im worried that she isnt eating enough as her tail is rather skinny. Nothing like other geckos of the same age. Any suggestions?

With medicine and some TLC, he will make a beautiful pet. Even if you bought him from a questionable breeder, you didn't waste your $60.
