Plastic or Glass...Clear or Shaded

Levine Jun 28, 2004 08:55 PM

I was wondering who at this site prefers glass and who prefers plastic for housing. Also is your glass/plastic clear or does it have a shading to it?

I only ask cause I had my boa in a plastic shaded cage and whenever i would open it she would be in strike position but in the glass she sees me coming and doesnt get so defensive.

We house our boas in racks. Most of the racks are home made and use plastic tubs (i.e. Iris tubs and other similar products). Unfortunately, we have so many that I don't have the time to handle each one as much as I would like. I do look at them all the time so I am always opening up their cages and peering at them.

I've noticed that some of them have a slight feeding response but nothing too bad. Most of the boas that I had since they were hatchlings don't have this feeding response because they are much more used to being handled.

I personally think it has more to do with the animal. Both how much it gets handled on a regular basis as well as their general temperment/attitude. I have a double het for Snow female that has always been nippy. As a baby, she was always tense and nippy when I handled her. I don't know why but I couldn't really get her over it. She grew up in a wooden cage with front opening glass doors. Later, she was moved into a rack cage that slid out. I didn't notice a chage in her behavior at all.

I don't know how much help this is...LOL...I would say, just use what works best for you!
