First ever clutch...for us and the snake! [pics]

Our Brooksi laid her eggs today. She shed on the 15th and ate one full size mouse after shedding. She started laying at around 6AM this morning and finished up around 5PM this evening. By around 9:30 she was out exploring the cage and seemed to be hunting for food so I gave her a mouse. She gobbled it right up. She seems to be in great shape. Now I need to know at what point should the male be re-introduced if I decide to go for a second clutch?

Here is a pic of the pair from a couple of months ago as well as a pic of her with her first four eggs. I will get a pic of the whole clutch in the incubator soon. They are incubating at 82.5 as we speak.

It has been an exciting day!

What you should have done was follow up the first mouse with about 5 or 6 more. Now you might have to wait until she gets her appetite up again to feed her another 5-6 mice. By waiting to feed you can miss your opportunity to breed her again.

What I reccomend is feed any female you plan on double clutching by tossing in at least 5-7 large meals and then introduce the male.

By feeding only one mouse and waiting only makes you loose your window for double/triple clutching. Remeber in the wild females rarley get enough food after laying to double clutch. If a female does double in the wild its usually a very fat female.

Wait a couple days and throw the male in with her anyway. She looks healthy enough on the pics.

it's probably obvious, but for newbies on the forum, i'd like to clarify that bluerosy means feed the snake 5-7 large meals and then LATER introduce the male again. Obviouisly you wouldn't put food and the male in with the female at the same time, not with kingsnakes.

bluerosy can add more specifics about the timing between those big meals and introduction of the male.
