updat on midland brown

Justin Stricklin Jun 29, 2004 01:17 AM

It is dead. It was gravid and the babies would have been born in about 2 weeks. It was thru no fualt of mine because when I caught it I noticed a hard lump in the snake. I thought it might be a snail. It never passed thru. It was a piece of wire round up in a ball. I don't know what to think about my (and the poor snakes) bad luck. I cut it open to see how many babies were in it and there were 3 about 2" long. There hearts were still beating. This has realy been a rough summer with snakes and eggs, well even my turtles too. Oh well, I won't give up. Oh and michael those racer eggs still have fungus on them, but the empreyos are starting to form and I can se blood vessels. The vita shell slows the growth down but it is not stopping it. Luckily though I have (what I think is a gravid racer) in sed right now and has a nest box already in there. This is my first year to have problems with fungus. Actaully this is more of a mold. It is green. It reminds me of algae on the back of a large snapper. Just not fuzzy. The eggs had to have contact with spores or something from outside or on the mothers body when I had to remove them from the mother when she died while laying. This kind of luck is making me nervous about trying to breed burmese pythons next year(not sure if I will or not) I have a breeding sized male but need a female. That won't be a problem though. Sorry for getting off topic agian.

Hey,

If you still have the baby browns, and if they are already dead, you should freeze them, the hatchling ringnecks can eat newborn browns.

yea, I thought of that, but the snake(s) started to decompose already. They spelled bad. My racer just shed, and suprisingly it ate earthwomrs. I have never tried that before. It spends a lot of time in the nest box.

Man this mystery is killing me, we'll probably have to wait until the eggs hatch to find out the sub-species in question. Unless, you think you could catch another one?
