Today Beanie laid two more eggs...her 5th clutch!!!??? She must have just laid them because they were warm to the touch. They were also stuck to the bottom of the laying box, but I was able to peel them off (with some difficulty) without ripping the shells. One of them is quite small and pointy, the other is normal sized but the shell is softer than normal. However, it is white and even with the soft shell withstood the pressure of being pulled off the plastic. This softer one can't be infertile because I can see the blood vessels!!! They are in the incubator now, but look very tiny compared to the other eggs. I am worried that I may have damaged these eggs when trying to pry them off the laying box because their shells kept denting in with the pressure I had top apply. Will this harm the potential babies? And what about the unusually small pointy egg? Should I just dispose of it (I don't want to hatch out a deformed baby). This is Beanie's first time ever breeding so why so many clutches? She is getting skinny and I am hoping that these eggs are tiny because they are her last ones. Has anyone ever had this happen to them or something like it? Please, I just need some answers.

I had a small pointy egg as well. It molded within 2 weeks so I disposed it. It was extremely small so I didnt think it would make it in the first place. As for potentially damaging your eggs, I would just keep a close eye on them. If they begin to rot, use athletes foot powder or some sort of bleach/water mixture.

Beanie is still in the tank with Pheonix. Could it be that he got her gravid again??? I am moving him back into the 10 gallon tank this weekend, away from Beanie just in case. I wanted eggs but not at at poor Beanie's expense!!!!

Leos can be gravid with or without a male being present. The fact that she laid eggs just means that her system produced them and then deposited them. It had nothing to do with the male being there.

Also, veins in an egg does not preclude them being fertile. I have had several eggs this year that showed initial veining that did not progress beyond that stage.

My first year female is on her 5th clutch right now. I am not sure how rare it is, but I would guess that it is pretty common.

My first year of breeding leos I had two first year females that laid 8 and 7 clutches each.

My girl Circe laid 7 clutches her first year breeding (she started at 10 months). She lost a little weight but gained it all back in the fall.

As far as the little egg goes, is it fertile? One of my females, Catundra, used to always end the season with a clutch consisting of one normal fertile egg and one small pointy dud.
