Accidentally my eggs got mold. What can I do?

book Jun 29, 2004 06:55 AM

My eggs have been quite fine for 4weeks, but I found my eggs moldy last night. The reason was the wooden thermometer I put in the incubator. The thermometer was so moldy and it seemed like mold was spreading on vermiculite. I think my eggs were all firtile and so well, so this mold is not from egg own. In this case, is there something I can do? Please give me some advise!!!

Dust some foot powder with anti-fungal ingredients on the moldy bits... remove the wooden thermometer, and relax. If it gets REALLY bad, you can put the eggs in new substrate, but I would only do that if I really had to.

Hi, Sasheena. Thank you for your quick reply. O.K.,I'll try to get some foot powder. ¥¥¥I'm wondering if it's same between mold of egg and mold from other thing. Thanks again.

Even if they aren't the same thing, It can't hurt, unless you use a ton of course.

I used a light dusting on my eggs since I had a real mold problem. It mostly retarded the fungus growth on the eggs I consider to be "good" eggs.... (due to hatch in the next week). Did NOT retard the growth of mold on a whole clutch of eggs that died about a week after being laid (I opened them up, all had tiny embryos at the same stage of development in them... had died some time before they were finally opened).

My theory (based on the HOPE that the eggs hatch that had some fungus that was retarded)... is that you can't really control mold on BAD eggs. Many people say mold on GOOD eggs won't hurt the eggs. In a week or so I will be able to hopefully share the glad news that the eggs have hatched and the hatchlings are perfect!
