I recently got a digital and I'm looking forward to taking pictures of my animals, but I have to say I'm a little conceerned about using the flash. How far away should I be if I'm going to use it? Is it OK to take a picture w/flash square on in the face? How do I get a nice bright pic w/o a flash?

Usually the camera will automatically use flash in low light. I like to use natural light if I can take the animal outside without any worries. They always look better in natural light. I posted this same pic the other day. It was taken outside.

I dont take much pics, but the one i do with the flash look better. My gecko dont seem to mind the flash. He dont seem to be startled by it.

I haven't ever taken my geckos outside. I live in a third floor apartment with a deck, and I'm a little concerned about a fall. Could I take them out in a container? But I'd like to get some shots that are more on their level, rather than from the top. Some of my newer animals are still too skittish for me to feel safe with them outside. I'm not sure how the others would react to all that air!

I have all my geckos in my basement and it would be a big ordeal to take them all out for natural lighting shots. I use the flash with a piece of tissue over the flash. this seems to do the job. I have had trouble with the flash washing out the pics. With the tissue it seems to work ok.

This was taken indoors... low surrounding light levels with flash... Macro mode from about 6 inches away... As long as you're careful with how its done.. it shouldn't be a problem.
