pine snake temperament

simias Jun 29, 2004 10:00 AM

Opinion Poll: Given lots of careful handling as they grow up, could anyone rank the subspecies in terms of disposition ? no., so., black, LA, mexican......I know there's a lot of individ. variation, but which snakes are the most predictably calm as adults ?
thanks

All in all as a general rule the northern pine seems to be the best of them. With that said though I have one northern that is a real nut with the hissing and actual biting. Also te animals we use at 4-H clubs, scout packs etc for talks is a big normal and and albino bull. They are big, impressive and gentle as kittens.

We do not have the time to handle our animals and I am sure this would have a big impact on the overall tameness of any of them. They are generally fed, cleaned and inspected on a weekly basis and the resultant handling is all they get. But with that disclaimer our group of adults probally ranks as follows:

Northerns
Pacifics
deppei deppei
Bulls
San Diego's
Sonorans
Capes
deppei jani
bimaris
southerns
Blacks
